From the data-driven factory to production orchestrated by AI agents
In this session, Maxence Tilliette (Accenture) speaks with Ludovic Doudard and Laurent Sidler, respectively heads of digital supply chain transformation and industrial IT at Renault Group, about eight years of automotive manufacturing transformation.
The first part traces Renault's data-driven shift, underway since around 2017: 25,000 connected pieces of equipment, 5 billion data points collected daily, reusable process data models (a "fastening" data model, for example, applied across 2,000-3,000 screwdrivers from different brands), and a self-service approach giving 7,000 operational users direct access to data and AI tools — with measurable results: more than €120 million in generated value, new model launch time cut in half (from 12 to 6 months), and quality-defect detection time reduced from 2 months to under 2 days.
The second part details the 3-year effort with Accenture to rebuild legacy manufacturing systems (some 30 years old) around digital twins governed by an industrial ontology, with AI agents capable of designing, building, and querying these systems — illustrated by a concrete use case on a new brake-disc coating (laser cladding) line, developed in 5 days instead of several months.
