From Factory Digital Twins to the Integration of Humanoid Robots
Industrial metaverse and humanoid robots: the Calvin robot in production at Renault — Renault Group × Wandercraft keynote at Tech For Industry Show 2026 (Paris Expo Porte de Versailles).
How does a carmaker link digital twin and humanoid robotics? Renault presents its industrial metaverse: 5 billion data points captured per day, one million digital twins, over 6,400 vision-based quality checks — a data foundation now feeding robots' physical AI.
With Wandercraft (maker of medical exoskeletons, behind the Olympic torch carried by a wheelchair user), Renault co-developed Calvin, a humanoid robot able to carry 40 kg, developed in 40 days. Tested at the Douai plant in real production — likely the first humanoid robot in production in Europe — it targets 10 robots by end-2026 and 350 robots in 2027.
Topics include: why cobots didn't take off, why reliability ("one error in 1,000") beats the spectacular, strenuous tasks facing the demographic wall, and the stakes of European robotics sovereignty.
